FacePhi has officially been granted ISO 27001 certification. The distinction attests to the company’s data protection capabilities, and indicates that it has trained its staff and implemented technologies to ensure that all personal information is handled responsibly, in accordance with the Information Security Management System (ISMS) framework.
In that regard, the ISMS framework establishes a set of international standards for data processing and storage. An organization that receives certification must be able to demonstrate that confidential information will remain confidential as it goes about its operations.
For its part, FacePhi is hoping to take on a greater role as a digital identity thought leader now that it has attained that coveted ISO status. The company plans to participate in more regulatory sandboxes to help governments craft new policy measures in finance and other sectors, after having already entered one such sandbox in South Korea. Those sandboxes could eventually lead more countries to approve the use of face-based digital identity solutions.
“Our projects with financial groups in South Korea have already opened the doors of a regulatory sandbox in this country, where the possibility of extending facial recognition as a safe way to open a bank account is being tested,” said FacePhi Quality and Systems Manager Jorge Félix. “We have learned the value that national and international regulators give to technological solutions with a high standard of regulatory compliance, so obtaining ISO 27001 is a new qualitative leap for FacePhi in its relationship with public administrations.”
FacePhi will conduct five audits on an annual basis to maintain the integrity of its system. The company has grown at a phenomenal rate despite the impact of COVID-19, and was recently named as Spain’s National SME of the Year by Banco Santander and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce.
