FacePhi Provides Biometric Onboarding for Chile’s Hites

Hites, a Chilean department store, has delivered the latest sign of FacePhi‘s expansion in the Latin American market. The retail chain has opted to use FacePhi’s biometric selfie onboarding technology to let customers apply for a credit card online.

Customers who are interested in a ‘Hites Card’ will need to submit photos of the front and back on an identity document, as well as a selfie. FacePhi’s technology will then match the customer’s face to the photo ID, thereby reliably verifying the customer’s identity without any need for an in-store interaction.

It’s an approach to remote onboarding that has been embraced by a wide range of organizations, particularly in the financial services sector, and has helped to drive FacePhi’s considerable success as the company has reported booming business in recent years. FacePhi has established a particularly strong presence in the Latin American market, and recently announced the opening of a new LATAM-focused subsidiary to help capitalize on that momentum.

Headquartered in Montevideo, Uruguay, the regional office is headed by FacePhi CRO Jorge Sanz, and is aimed at serving clients in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Given that mandate, the Hites project would appear to be an early win for the FacePhi LATAM team.

The LATAM region isn’t the only source of business for FacePhi, of course. The company opened a South Korea-based office to focus on the APAC market in the spring of 2019, and proceeded to win new business in the region. Meanwhile, FacePhi continues to solidify its position in its home country of Spain, having recently obtained Pinakes certification, which essentially cleared its technology for use by any bank in the country without the need for a special security audit; and certification with respect to Spain’s National Security Framework, or ‘ENS’.
