Time is arguably the most important resource a business has. Big or small, the operations undertaken in order to maintain even the status quo for a business mandate that everybody puts in their due time and be compensated accordingly. Unfortunately, in businesses of all sizes, not everyone is going to be seeing eye-to-eye with the members charged in making sure resources our best spent, which is a gentle way of saying some people are time thieves.
Old sign-in procedures like manual punch cards or regularly updated computer spreadsheets, which are still broadly used to keep track of employee attendance, make things a little too easy for the disgruntled or lazy employee looking to work less for more pay. This is why biometric time and attendance technologies exist. Your buddy that shares a cubicle with you can’t punch you in for work if you’re running late when your thumb or eyes are the sign-in credentials.
The issue that lots of businesses come up against when faced with the question of upgrading to biometrics for employee management is common across the entire strong authentication industry: the common obstacles of deployment costs and end-user friction (aka accessibility). This is why companies like FotoPunch are taking a page out of the subscription software handbook and offering biometric time and attendance as a service (commonly referred to as the Software-as-a-Service or SaaS model).
FotoPunch operated out of the cloud, leveraging employee mobile devices as biometric and proximity based time cards. The company’s proprietary facial recognition technology is an obvious choice for this BYOD punch card solution, since front facing cameras are standard fare on current gen smartphones. What customers are left with is a subscription based solution that promotes BYOD, employee integrity and business efficiency.
“We’ve always been passionate about creating solutions for small businesses, so we’re excited to be able to incorporate our robust mobile time tracking technologies into a self-service model,” explains FotoPunch CEO Tom Loveland. “We love the idea that small businesses with mobile employees can easily sign up online, try it out, and deploy our mobile time tracking technology.”
