EyeLock Releases Temperature Screening Add-on for Biometric Iris Scanner

EyeLock has added temperature detection to its nano iXT iris scanner. The new feature will allow venues to screen for fever while verifying the identities of people entering the building.

The device’s thermal detection capabilities are delivered through an optional add-on module, which has been dubbed iTemp. The module is built with an FLIR Lepton LWIR sensor that has appeared in other handheld temperature scanning solutions.

EyeLock noted that fever is one of the most common symptoms of COVID-19, and argued that the iTemp module will improve access control because it will negate the need for a separate screening device at points of entry. The nano iXT debuted earlier this month, and was originally designed to provide contactless biometric authentication.

“The iTemp module equips companies with a highly accurate, reliable and user-friendly tool that helps them create the safest possible work and business environments for their employees and customers,” said EyeLock CEO Jeff Carter. “Measuring an individual’s temperature can be done with confidence to permit or deny access within a building.”

iTemp customers will have the ability to configure the module based on their own specific needs. That means that they will be able to set the temperature threshold for the device, and create a custom message to display while the nano iXT is in use. Like other thermal screening devices, the iTemp can be used to bar access to anyone with an elevated temperature.

The nano iXT is the result of a strategic collaboration with CMITech. EyeLock has also formed new partnerships with Integral Technology Solutions and the Marubeni Corporation in the past few months. The former will allow EyeLock to target customers in the life sciences industry, while the latter is a distribution agreement that will solidify EyeLock’s foothold in Japan and the Asian market more generally.
