“Our global sales partners have been looking for an affordable access control solution with biometrics built-in, and we listened to them.” – Chris Jahnke, SVP of Global Business Development, EyeLock
EyeLock has announced an important addition to its biometric solutions portfolio: an access management system. Dubbed ‘NanoAccess’, it’s a web-based solution that is compatible with all of EyeLock’s biometric devices, as well as smartphones and smart watches for mobile access.
“Until the release of NanoAccess, EyeLock was simply selling biometric readers that required someone else’s access control system to work,” explained EyeLock Global Business Development SVP Chris Jahnke. “Our global sales partners have been looking for an affordable access control solution with biometrics built-in, and we listened to them.”
In addition to its support for multiple biometric modalities and mobile authentication options, NanoAccess features support for EyeLock’s ‘Portable Templates’ feature. This enables an administrator to save a given user’s biometric template onto a smart card or mobile device instead of a server, a potentially useful tool for compliance with data protection and privacy regulations such as Europe’s GDPR.
The announcement of NanoAccess comes about a week after the launch of EyeLock’s NanoFace, a tablet-like biometric access control terminal. Whereas EyeLock has made a name for itself over the years as a provider of biometric solutions based on iris recognition, NanoFace marks its expansion into facial recognition, offering customers another option for contactless and secure access control.
NanoAccess would appear to be a natural next step for EyeLock, allowing the company to consolidate its multimodal offerings under a single piece of access management software. In a statement announcing the new solution, the company proclaimed that NanoAccess “will dramatically increase EyeLock’s revenue and profitability in the years to come.”
The new offerings, and EyeLock’s optimistic outlook with respect to their market success, are auspicious signals of the company’s trajectory under new management. The company welcomed Allen Ibaugh as its new President in December, with Pat Lavelle – the President and CEO of parent company VOXX – taking on the role of EyeLock CEO.
