EyeLock is setting its sights on the healthcare market, seeing major opportunities for the application of its iris recognition technology.
In a statement, the company announced that it is now working on a project for “one of the leading provincial health authorities in Canada, responsible for planning and delivering health support and services to millions through the areas it serves.” The company also asserted that it is “in discussions with other healthcare organizations, medical providers and technology solutions providers and integrators”.
It’s an area where biometric technology is already gaining considerable traction, with opportunities to leverage biometrics for the identification of patients, the retrieval of medical records, digital security, remote health monitoring, and more. A recent forecast from Crystal Market Research predicted that the global healthcare biometrics market will reach a value of $12 billion by 2025, while a Credence Research prediction put the figure at $13.9 billion.
EyeLock’s new focus on this potentially lucrative market comes after the company’s former CTO, Jeff Carter, was appointed its new CEO at the start of this year. Commenting on the shift to the healthcare market, Carter said EyeLock’s iris recognition technology offers “distinct advantages over other commonly used biometrics,” adding, “Our focus is to educate healthcare professionals, hospital administrators, and hospital equipment manufacturers as to these very important advantages.”
