Biometrics Specialists See Eye to Eye in New Partnership

EyeLock is hoping to raise its international profile through a new global partnership with CMITech. The alliance will allow EyeLock to reach new markets and fill out its portfolio with interoperable products that support new applications of its iris recognition technology.

CMITech, meanwhile, will enjoy similar benefits. The company will have access to EyeLock’s distribution network, and will be able to use that to find new customers for its various access control solutions. CMITech is also an iris recognition specialist best known for manufacturing robust iris recognition cameras.

“Never have two market leaders in iris recognition joined forces to produce innovative solutions for mass deployment,” said EyeLock CEO Jeff Carter. “With EyeLock’s extensive global distribution channel, this partnership will create greater accessibility for these technologies around the world.”

“Success in physical access control and other markets requires strong application software as well as sales channel and service support resources,” added CMITech COO Phil Tusa. “This allows CMITech to concentrate our R&D resources to maintain our leadership in contactless and hands-free biometrics imaging products.”

The agreement will lead to the creation of new products that combine CMITech cameras with EyeLock’s iris recognition algorithm and EIS identity management software. The products themselves will be distributed under the EyeLock brand, with EyeLock retaining exclusive distribution rights for CMITech’s physical access control applications in North and South America. Those distribution rights are non-exclusive in the rest of the world.

EyeLock believes that the demand for iris-based access control will be particularly high in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, which has generated more interest in contactless solutions while simultaneously discouraging the use of fingerprint recognition. The news comes shortly after CMITech supplemented its own portfolio with a new facial recognition solution.

SiriusXM recently selected EyeLock technology to protect its mobile e-wallet and enable secure in-car transactions.
