EyeLock and CMITech Unveil Biometric Iris Recognition Scanner

EyeLock’s latest iris recognition reader is officially available around the world. The nano iXT is the first new product to emerge from the strategic partnership between EyeLock and CMITech.

In its announcement, EyeLock emphasized the utility of the nano iXT in a post-COVID environment. The coronavirus has discouraged the use of contact-based forms of biometric authentication like shared fingerprint sensors, while contactless technologies like facial recognition often struggle when asked to identify people who are wearing masks.

EyeLock believes that iris recognition offers a potential solution to both problems. The company revealed that it is also developing a thermal sensor to enhance the nano iXT’s appeal as a COVID-ready security solution. The thermal sensor will be released as an optional module, and will allow the nano iXT to perform temperature scans to identify people who have symptoms of COVID-19.

“The nano iXT’s imaging processor, combined with our latest algorithm, raises the bar in the industry,” said EyeLock CEO Jeff Carter. “The nano iXT meets the ISO imaging standards, so when you collect images during enrollment, you ensure the greatest overall user experience.” 

The nano iXT is compatible with the rest of EyeLock’s product line, including the nano NXT and nano EXT scanners. The device supports multiple languages, and comes with an LCD touchscreen, dual auto-tilt cameras, and a built-in HID card reader.

The alliance with CMITech is one of several partnerships that EyeLock has formed in an effort to expand its clientele. In the past few weeks alone, EyeLock has formed distribution agreements with Integral Technology Solutions and the Marubeni Corporation. The former will allow EyeLock to target the life sciences market, while the latter will allow EyeLock to reach customers in Japan and the rest of Asia more broadly. 

CMITech, meanwhile, recently released a new facial recognition solution that can identify users at a distance of 1.6 meters.
