EyeLock’s nano iXT iris recognition scanners can now determine whether or not someone is wearing a mask. The feature is enabled through the iTemp temperature screening add-on, and is intended to improve public health outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To that end, the nano iXT can be configured to deny access to people whose faces are uncovered. The device will check for a mask while iTemp is conducting its own thermal scan. The nano iXT debuted in the first week of August, while the supplemental iTemp module arrived later in the month. iTemp can also be used to bar access to anyone running a fever.
The mask detection feature will make it easier for businesses to enforce mask mandates for customers and employees alike.
“The nano iXT equips companies with a tool that helps create the safest possible working environment for all visiting parties,” said EyeLock CEO Jeff Carter. “Detecting the presence of an individual’s mask combined with their temperature can now be done quickly and with confidence on the same device. The driving force behind these latest advancements is to provide greater safety and peace of mind for everyone.”
Customers can set their preferred temperature and mask settings using the nano iXT’s framework. The iTemp module is part of a larger trend in which multiple technology providers have released mask detection and thermal screening solutions to help combat the ongoing pandemic.
