“Our latest eIDAS certification makes it even easier for EU governments and enterprises to use iProov to verify that an online user enrolling for a digital service is the right person, a real person, and that they are verifying right now.” – Andrew Bud, CEO, iProov
With multiple European governments now planning digital ID programs thanks to European Union mandates, iProov has set itself up for success a potential vendor of digital identity technology. The company has announced that its Genuine Presence Assurance technology has attained a “Level of Assurance High” (or “LoA High”) certification with respect to the eIDAS regulation.
The electronic Identification, Authentication and Trust Services regulation is aimed at ensuring the security and efficiency of electronic interactions across the European Union. eID Assurance LoA High certification attests that a given electronic user verification solution offers the highest level of certainty and security.
In announcing the achievement, iProov framed it in the context of the European Union’s efforts to develop a digital wallet and mobile identity solution. The European Commission put out a tender earlier this year in search of technology partners to support the implementation of the European Digital Identity Framework and large-scale pilots of the European Digital Identity Wallet.
“The uptake and usage of the EU Digital Identity Wallet depends on citizens being able to enroll and authenticate themselves remotely in an effortless and secure way,” explained iProov founder and CEO Andrew Bud. “This is what iProov enables. Our latest eIDAS certification makes it even easier for EU governments and enterprises to use iProov to verify that an online user enrolling for a digital service is the right person, a real person, and that they are verifying right now.”
The eID Assurance LoA High certification comes after iProov’s liveness detection solution was certified as a Qualified Trust Service under eIDAS earlier this year. That certification cleared organizations to use iProov’s face biometrics technology to bind a given user identity to a Qualified Electronic Signature.
iProov already has a foothold in the European digital ID market. Its technology is being used by SK ID in Estonia’s SmartID system, and by itsme, the provider of Belgium’s digital ID app.
The company’s latest eIDAS certification arrives after iProov got a new customer in the crypto FinTech space last month.
