Entrust is trying to help the travel industry recover from its downturn during the pandemic. To that end, the company has unveiled a new Seamless Travel Solution that will enable contactless screening and streamline the passenger experience in the wake of COVID-19.
At its core, the Seamless Travel Solution is a digital credentialing service that allows people to link their travel documents to their facial biometrics. They can then pass through security checkpoints at airports, train stations, and cruise terminals with only a facial recognition scan, and without presenting physical documents to security personnel. As a result, the solution removes friction and minimizes the number of touchpoints in the passenger journey.
The actual onboarding process can be carried out remotely. Customers can use a mobile device to scan any necessary travel and identity documents (including passports and vaccine records) before they leave their house, and take a selfie to match those documents to their owner. They will then enjoy an expedited screening process when they try to board their intended craft.
The Seamless Travel Solution is compliant with the latest GDPR regulations, and will encrypt all of the information sent and stored through the platform. Travelers can choose to store a Digital Travel Credential on a mobile device, though it is not mandatory for those using the service. Entrust itself will not store any personally identifiable information.
“As citizens begin to travel again, now is the perfect time to bring this solution to the market,” said Entrust Identity Verification VP Gordon Wilson. “The Seamless Travel Solution will allow travelers to feel safer and experience less hassle, while also enabling operational efficiency to both border agencies and the entire travel industry through digital transformation.”
Entrust is hoping that the service will support the best practices laid out in the WTTC’s Safe & Seamless Traveler protocols. The new solution combines Entrust’s data protection technology with digital onboarding technology from WorldReach, which Entrust acquired back in April. The company has since published a recent study that suggests that employees are more willing to embrace hybrid work models after spending more time working from home in the past two years.
