Entersekt now offers support for the BankID digital ID in Norway. BankID began in 2000 as a collaboration between several Norwegian banks, and it has since emerged as the country’s preferred form of digital identification with 4.3 million users. The IDs are recognized by all of Norway’s major banks, and can already be used to authorize transactions and give consent.
The partnership with Entersekt will give BankIDs more utility, especially in mobile and online settings. Most notably, BankID customers will now be able to use their IDs for onboarding and authentication in web browsers and mobile banking applications, and as proof of identity when creating an electronic signature. Entersekt is hoping that the arrangement will prompt more Norwegian banks to move forward with their digital transformations, since they can now use Entersekt’s financial authentication platform to enable secure biometric authentication across a wide range of channels, with BankID serving as the root of trust for those that do.
“Including the Norwegian e-ID on our security and authentication platform gives Norwegian banks the opportunity to work with a single partner for all their authentication needs, including biometrics, app security, and passwordless login features,” said Entersekt Channel Partnership VP Frans Labuschagne. “Consolidating our offering to include BankID opens the door for banks to fast-track their digital enablement journeys. It can help them reach and acquire customers, launch new services, and multiply revenue streams while meeting compliance obligations with confidence – all via a single platform.”
Entersekt’s platform is compliant with the latest Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering regulations. The company believes that the BankID partnership will help raise its profile in Europe more generally, since the European Union has been trying to promote the interoperability of digital IDs across international borders within the region.
“Our collaboration aligns perfectly with the goal for countries across the EU to continue facilitating support for digital identities,” added BankID Sales Head Eva Sandberg. “Working with a leader in device identity and customer authentication positions us well for the future.”
Entersekt has previously provided authentication services for a number of German banks and Austrian card issuers through its existing partnership with Netcetera. The company has also integrated behavioral biometrics technology from BioCatch and NuData into its authentication platform.
