“It’s the product of an 18-month collaboration with Télécom SudParis, whose Dean of Research, Bernadette Dorizzi, emphasized that the ‘real originality’ of the BioDigital solution ‘lies in the quality of the reconstructed image of the internal fingerprint.'”
In collaboration with Télécom SudParis, a French engineering academy, IDEMIA has developed a new 3D fingerprint scanning system.
Dubbed BioDigital, the system is based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology, which essentially analyzes how light is refracted against a biological surface. This allows for the production of a three-dimensional map of a fingerprint that includes the subcutaneous fingerprint and even sweat pores; and in a statement announcing the BioDigital solution, IDEMIA asserted that it offers “a success rate bordering on 100%” with respect to biometric recognition.
It’s the product of an 18-month collaboration with Télécom SudParis, whose Dean of Research, Bernadette Dorizzi, emphasized that the “real originality” of the BioDigital solution “lies in the quality of the reconstructed image of the internal fingerprint.”
IDEMIA has not indicated where it will take BioDigital from here, in terms of potential applications and markets for the technology. But the company asserted in its press release that “[t]he transfer of technology to IDEMIA is now completed,” suggesting that intellectual property pertaining to BioDigital is now firmly at IDEMIA’s disposal.
