Biometrics in US Education Sector To See Significant Growth

Biometric technology is booming in the US education sector, according to a new report from market research firm TechNavio. Looking at a forecast period of 2014-2019, TechNavio’s researchers predict that the market sector will grow at a rate of 23.65 percent (CAGR).

In a synopsis, lead analyst Raj Kumar asserts that the technology is most often being used in students enrolment, with fingerprint scanning being the primary modality, though voice and vein recognition are starting to become popular as well. We’re also starting to see other use cases of the technology in education: Just last week, for example, Virginia Commonwealth University announced that it would use an iris-scanning system for student entry into its on-campus dining hall, and we have seen fingerprint scanning announced for similar purposes in K-12 schools. And biometric technology is also starting to find school deployments for security purposes.
