Diebold Nixdorf has released a new line of ATMs that leverage mobile tech and biometrics to deliver a more personalized self-service experience. The DN Series is currently in a pilot phase with 18 financial institutions in 13 different countries, including BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas.
“The self-service channel continues to play a crucial role in financial institutions’ long-term strategies,” said Dominic Hirsch, the Managing Director for the research firm RBR. “With 96 billion cash withdrawals made at ATMs last year at a value of $13 trillion, our data indicates that ATMs will remain a vital banking channel for the foreseeable future.”
The new ATMs come equipped with the DN AllConnect Services and DN Vynamic software platforms. The former boosts connectivity with IoT technology and machine learning, while the latter enables the DN Series to interact with mobile devices, which allows for modular NFC and biometric upgrades.
That mobile connectivity is particularly noteworthy given Diebold Nixdorf’s prior experiments with selfie-based authentication. While the company has previously released ATMs with built-in fingerprint scanners, the DN Series would allow Diebold Nixdorf to move the biometric verification process to the user’s smartphone instead of the ATM itself.
The DN Series also provides a range of standard security features, including anti-skimming and encryption capabilities. Meanwhile, DN AllConnect Services has played a central role in Diebold Nixdorf’s biometric ATM collaboration with MasterCard.
