DFW Airport, a TSA Innovation Site, Named ‘Airport of the Year’

Air Transport World, a longstanding trade magazine focused on the aviation industry, has named Dallas Fort Worth International Airport the 2019 Airport of the Year, with DFW giving some credit to its experimentation with biometrics.

In a statement announcing the distinction, ATW Editor-in-Chief Karen Walker said the airport “truly stood out for its innovation, operational excellence and focus on serving its customers”, adding that it “has invested in infrastructure and technology to improve its facilities”.

On that note, in announcing its award win, DFW Airport highlighted multiple operational milestones from the past year, including the addition of new destinations and flights, carbon neutral accreditation, and the implementation of “a biometric technology pilot program”. The airport was selected as an Innovation Task Force site by the Transportation Security Administration near the start of 2018, establishing it as hub for ITF experimentation in technologies like biometric authentication and automated passenger screening.

The ATW plaudit will be formally bestowed at a ceremony scheduled for March 26th, and could help to foster greater openness to technological innovations among other representatives from the airport and aviation community.
