DERMALOG Gets Certified for Germany’s Expanded PAD Standard

The German Federal Office for Information Security (“BSI”) has expanded its Common Criteria PAD (Presentation Attack Detection) standard to 10-print fingerprint scanners, and DERMALOG has become the first company to attain certification, the company has announced.

BSI’s anti-spoofing standards for fingerprint scanners previously only applied to one or two-print scanning devices. The expansion of the Common Criteria PAD standard to 4-4-2 scanners may reflect a growing concern about the threat of spoofing as the use of biometric authentication continues to proliferate.

“As a manufacturer of innovative biometric solutions, protection against presentation attacks is one of the essential components of our systems,” commented DERMALOG CEO Gunther Mull in a statement. “The certification by the BSI confirms that we are also a global leader in the field of liveness detection.”

DERMALOG attained its certification with the expanded standard with its LF10 fingerprint scanner, a solution that has been commercially available for several years. The device is capable of scanning plain and rolled fingerprints, and is aimed at multiple applications including border control, law enforcement, banking, and electronic documentation.

The announcement comes after last month’s news that DERMALOG was providing a biometric fever screening border control solution for airport authorities in Thailand, to help in their efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
