As for industry news proper, this week brought a big development for FacePhi. The company has become a prominent vendor of selfie-based onboarding solutions in the financial services sector in particular, but is now expanding in the air travel sector thanks to a new partnership with AENA, Spain’s top airport operator. AENA has awarded FacePhi a four-year contract valued at roughly €1.5 million:

Another major player in the biometrics industry, meanwhile, got some attention with two promotions to its executive team. Julia Schoonenberg is now IDEMIA’s Executive Vice President of Financial Institutions, having previously served as the company’s SVP of Financial Institutions in the Middle East and Africa; and Matt Cole, the former head of IDEMIA’s Secure Enterprise Transactions business unit, is now the Executive Vice President of Public Security and Identity:

And finally, some M&A news. Fraud prevention specialist Sift has completed its acquisition of Keyless. The transaction will see Keyless’s passwordless authentication technology integrated into Sift’s Account Defense solution, enabling end users to sign into digital accounts using selfie-based biometric authentication:
