Delta ID Iris Software Approved for Aadhaar

Delta ID‘s iris scanning technology has been approved for use in India’s Aadhaar national ID program.

This past May, Delta ID’s ActiveIRIS software was tested by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification Directorate (STQC), following the STQC’s provisional certification of ActiveIRIS as applied in the Samsung Galaxy Tab. STQC certification requires an identification capability of 99 percent for a population of 5,000.

Commenting on the certification, STQC Director General Umesh Kumar Nandwani said that by making iris scanning available via mobile devices, the government hopes “to make the use of Aadhaar even more convenient and reliable for our residents.”

There are now well over a billion citizens registered through Aadhaar, with the national ID used for an increasing number of civil activities, from accessing government subsidy services to banking at ATMs. Now, with Samsung’s new Galaxy Note7 device helping to dramatically raise the profile of mobile iris scanning, Delta ID’s solution is poised to become a popular authentication solution for a potentially huge number of India’s citizens.
