“Delta ID’s technology was also used in the world’s first iris-scanning smartphone, NTT DOCOMO’s F-04G, as well as a sequel device.”
Iris biometrics specialist Delta ID is now officially certified to provide technology for Aadhaar, India’s ambitious national biometric ID program.
The certification covers the company’s ActiveIRIS technology, which is already being used in a mobile device by Samsung: the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris. That tablet was designed for Aadhaar compatibility in particular, and launched in India earlier this year.
The company has proven to be something of a pioneer in mobile integrations of iris recognition. Delta ID’s technology was also used in the world’s first iris-scanning smartphone, NTT DOCOMO’s F-04G, as well as a sequel device.
The Aadhaar certification is key to a big market, with well over a billion Indian citizens now enrolled in Aadhaar. Commenting in a statement, Delta ID CEO Dr. Salil Prabhakar said his team is “confident the citizens of India will find it easy and convenient to use for Aadhaar authentication and eKYC applications.”
