“Delta is also helping to lead the charge for airport biometrics.”
With a role in a keynote address of this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian took the opportunity to highlight his company’s use of innovative technologies to serve travelers.
Sharing the stage with IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, Bastian pointed to the use of handheld devices like its Nomad and SkyPro tools to help Delta agents access passenger and flight information, as well as Delta’s extensive use of customer data and machine learning for customer engagement, and its use of RFID technology for baggage tracking.
Delta is also helping to lead the charge for airport biometrics. Working with CLEAR, the company delivered the nationwide expansion last year of a system allowing its loyalty program members to access special airport lounges with a fingerprint scan. It has also worked with the US Customs and Border Protection agency to experiment with biometric boarding systems that replace travelers’ boarding passes with face scans.
Bastian’s comments were delivered at a keynote event on CES 2019’s opening day, with additional speakers including executives from Walmart and ExxonMobil. CES 2019 closes its run in Las Vegas today.
