Delta Air Lines has expanded its CLEAR partnership to allow members of its loyalty program to sign into all 50 of its US Delta Sky Club locations using a fingerprint scan.
The airline first started trialing the system at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in the spring of last year. Since then, the initiative has evolved to allow Delta passengers at DCA to replace their boarding passes with a fingerprint scan. And the program has attained its own brand; it’s now called Delta Biometrics Powered by CLEAR.
In a statement announcing the expansion of biometric check-in for Delta Sky Club members, the airline framed it as “a natural extension of the airline’s ongoing, optional biometric testing over the past year, including Delta Sky Club check-in at DCA and ATL B Concourse, boarding at DCA and bag drop at MSP,” referring to additional biometric programs undertaken at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
In addition to its work with CLEAR, Delta Air Lines has also been collaborating with the US Customs and Border Protection agency on at least one other biometric passenger screening project, at the JFK International Airport in New York. The CBP has aggressively expanded its biometric border screening activities over the last year. CLEAR, a private sector organization, has meanwhile extended its focus to also include stadium deployments of its biometric screening system.
