“…a number of companies and products have embraced Windows Hello, and the technology continues to grow more sophisticated, with a new Microsoft keyboard featuring a fingerprint sensor embedded within one of its keys.”
Dell continues to champion Windows-powered biometric authentication with new laptop devices supporting Windows Hello login.
One of the newly announced devices, the XPS 13 laptop, features a built-in fingerprint reader. That same feature is optional on the upgraded 13″ Inspiron 7000 convertible tablet/laptop, and that device, together with a 15″ version, also supports infrared facial recognition, allowing hands-free user authentication.
These features were first introduced to Dell’s Inspiron line over a year ago, with Dell being an early and enthusiastic supporter of the biometric security capabilities built into Microsoft’s latest operating system. It isn’t alone; a number of companies and products have embraced Windows Hello, and the technology continues to grow more sophisticated, with a new Microsoft keyboard featuring a fingerprint sensor embedded within one of its keys.
Dell announced the new devices together with its first foray into VR technology, the Dell Visor. That offering doesn’t feature Windows Hello support, but given the pace at which biometric authentication technology is spreading, a future version could quite plausibly integrate it in some form.
