Dell has announced a new line of Inspiron two-in-one tablet computers at this week’s Computex trade show. Among its new products are the Inspiron 7000s, all of which sport a number of features including biometric login.
The devices are available in 13″, 15″, and 17″ models, and each features a 6th Gen Intel Core processor. They also include backlit keyboards, FHD resolution screens, and Waves MaxxAudio Pro software, among other features.
But for many users, the devices’ use of infrared cameras compatible with Windows Hello will be a major standout feature. They’ll allow for biometric authentication via facial recognition, which means users can unlock their computers just by looking at them.
It’s a system that has proven highly effective and convenient, and one that hardware makers such as HP have been keen to take advantage of. And in the case of Dell’s new products, it’s available not only on the Inspiron 7000s, but as an add-on for its new Inspiron 5000 devices as well, which offer optional infrared camera features. That should help to further extend biometric authentication to more consumers, which could help to popularize the technology more generally.
