Daon is extending its reach to the healthcare sector, announcing a new partnership that will see its pioneering identity verification software used in an automated vending machine for controlled products such as clinical drugs. The company has not yet named its partner, but promises a preview of the planned solution at this year’s HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition.
The vending machine will be able to verify a user’s identity and/or age using Daon’s software, enabling use cases such as 24/7 prescription pickup, and “validated drug dispensing at hospitals and clinics with a secure biometric ID,” the company explained in a statement.
Daon is also pitching its IdentityX platform at the healthcare sector more broadly. Noting that its solutions are Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR)-compliant, the company says its technology can be used to enable passwordless authentication for access to medical records and prescriptions, and for remote onboarding of healthcare workers and staff, among other applications.
Known for helping to pioneer mobile biometrics over the past several years, Daon’s flagship platform was recently brought to the Amazon Web Services marketplace and the ForgeRock Identity Cloud, extending its reach to more enterprise organizations. Now, Daon is eyeing the market opportunity in a digitizing healthcare sector.
“Because healthcare data is among the most personal, companies need sophisticated identity management solutions,” said Daon’s President of New Industries, Conor White. “Healthcare is often associated with complicated, cumbersome processes. Our solutions increase the security of very personal data while reducing the friction that can cause confusion, concerns, and delays in the patient experience.”
At HIMSS, Daon will showcase its solutions from booth #7441. The industry event is slate to run from April 17 to 20 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.
