Taiwan-based CyberLink is aiming to elevate its profile with plans to showcase its facial recognition technology at next month’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The company says its FaceMe biometric engine, which recently delivered a solid performance in the MegaFace Challenge, boasts of a 98.41 percent True Acceptance Rate and a False Acceptance Rate of under 0.000001 percent. It is compatible with Android, iOS, Linux, and Windows operating systems, and can operate through a range of hardware configurations, CyberLink says.
At CES 2019, the company will highlight its facial recognition solution’s ‘Smart Retail’ applications, demonstrating how the system can be used in stores to track customer traffic, demographic data pertaining to age and gender, and even customers’ emotions while they view products. CyberLink will also highlight FaceMe’s liveness detection capability, with the company asserting that the system can differentiate between a live person and photos and videos.
The company will be showcasing this technology at a somewhat sensitive time in the US, with Amazon having attracted some controversy over the past year by selling its own facial recognition technology to police agencies, and a number of tech industry actors having recently called for stronger government regulation for facial recognition and AI more broadly. Nevertheless, there appears to be growing interest in this kind of technology among retailers, and those who will attend CES 2019 may be impressed by FaceMe’s sophistication.
CES 2019 is slated to run from January 8th to 11th, with CyberLink to showcase its technology from booth 26056 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
