CyberLink Provides Biometric Face Recognition for Japanese Access Control Startup

The Japanese startup Bitkey will be leveraging CyberLink’s FaceMe solution for authentication and physical access control. Bitkey was founded in 2018, and currently develops smart locks and access systems that can be deployed in residential and commercial settings.

With FaceMe, Bitkey will be able to provide its customers with secure contactless authentication. The utility will eliminate the need for security cards and physical keys, allowing registered users to gain access to a building with only a facial recognition scan.

Bitkey’s Digital Key management platform has already been deployed at an apartment building in Tokyo’s Koto District. The company is also pitching the solution for commercial establishments like offices and concert halls.

“Access, security and safety will always be a priority for smart buildings and facial recognition is one of the best technologies for identification and authentication,” said CyberLink CEO Jau Huang. “With Bitkey, residents will not only have a more convenient and seamless way to enter and exit their building, but they will have confidence in the security of their home.”

CyberLink has upgraded FaceMe several times in the past few months, first to give it the ability to identify people wearing masks, and then with thermal imaging technology to help watch for people who may be infected with COVID-19. The company’s list of recent FaceMe clients includes LILIN and Municipal Parking Services. The former is using the technology in a surveillance setup, while the later has deployed it in its Sentry Health Kiosks.
