Credence ID has been awarded two patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patents—No. 12107957, granted in October 2024, and No. 12013924, issued in June 2024—focus on digital identity authentication technology. They cover innovations in secure verification processes and privacy-enhanced identity validation.
Patent No. 12107957 addresses a “Point-of-Service Identity Verification Device,” which enables verification of digital credentials through a secure authentication protocol. The technology allows real-time communication between user devices and trusted verification platforms while maintaining end-to-end encryption—a crucial feature for sectors requiring high security standards such as financial services and healthcare.
The second patent, No. 12013924, introduces a “Non-Repudiable Proof of Digital Identity Verification” method that implements zero-knowledge proofs for generating secure verification logs. This approach creates tamper-evident audit trails without exposing sensitive personal data, addressing growing concerns about privacy in digital identity systems. The innovation aligns with regulations like the EU’s GDPR and California’s CCPA.
“These patents strengthen our ability to deliver secure digital identity verification solutions,” said CEO Bruce Hanson. “As security threats evolve, so must our technology.”
CTO Yash Shah explained the technical significance: “The innovations we’ve protected allow us to implement advanced verification methods while maintaining strict privacy standards.”
The patents are expected to support Credence ID’s expansion in sectors including financial services, travel, healthcare, and government services. The company has recently focused on developing mobile driver’s license (mDL) verification solutions and other digital credential systems.
Credence ID, established in 2012 in Oakland, California, has developed expertise in biometric hardware and software solutions. The company’s technology is used in large-scale identity programs worldwide, including work with India’s Aadhaar system and projects across Southeast Asia and Africa.
The company has played a significant role in implementing MOSIP-compliant authentication devices. MOSIP (Modular Open Source Identity Platform) is an open-source identity management system designed to help governments and organizations implement secure digital identity systems. Credence ID was among the first providers to develop integrated fingerprint and facial recognition devices that meet MOSIP compliance standards.
Through its work with international ID programs, Credence ID has contributed to digital identity initiatives in developing regions, supporting financial inclusion and access to government services. The company’s solutions have been deployed in national ID programs across multiple countries, including projects in Indonesia, Pakistan, and several African nations.
