Credence ID Opts for NEXT Biometrics Tech in New Line of Low-cost Devices

Credence ID is preparing to launch a new line of Android-based biometric devices, and has selected NEXT Biometrics fingerprint sensor technology for their scanning capability.

The latter has announced that it has received an initial purchase order for its FAP 20 sensor, which will differentiate Credence ID’s new line of devices from its existing FAP 30 products. The new line, dubbed the “ECO” generation of Credence ID scanners, will be aimed primarily at the Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia markets, and marketed as a low-cost line of solutions.

In a statement, NEXT Biometrics called the order “a first step for NEXT to grow with high-quality partners,” and framed it as the base for considerable new business. “NEXT sees this as an important entry point into selling more than 100,000 sensors per year, with this partnership alone, and to secure a stable base of recurring revenues,” the company said.

For its part, Credence ID’s CTO, Yash Shah, attested that “NEXT Biometrics active thermal technology will enable us to offer competitively priced, secure, high-performance PIV certified mobile ID devices to our customers.”

News of the order comes amid NEXT Biometrics’ restructuring efforts aimed at dramatically reducing its operating costs, and in the wake of its announcement earlier this month that its US arm had received a $1 million loan through the US government’s COVID-19 relief program. Terms of the new purchase order were not disclosed.
