Crayonic is the latest company to become part of the FIDO Alliance. The Dutch decentralized identity specialist joins the Alliance as an Associate Member, and will work to reduce the need for passwords in identity and authentication applications.
In that regard, Crayonic indicated that it will release a new Cryonic KeyVault device based on FIDO standards before the end of the year. The KeyVault is a keychain-friendly security device that leverages multiple forms of biometrics (including behavioral biometrics) and a unique proof-of-free-will utility to verify the identity of its owner.
Cryonic is currently conducting a KeyVault Beta Program ahead of the official launch of the device. The company is hoping that the KeyVault will help address the recent increase in cyberattacks, citing an FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center report that found that COVID-related cybercrime has jumped 300 percent during the pandemic.
“Crayonic recognizes the value of the FIDO framework being adopted by the industry to protect access,” said CEO Peter Kolarov. “Secure identity and access solutions are more critical than ever as bad actors take advantage of COVID-19 with increased levels of phishing and financial fraud, while employees attempt to work remotely often bypassing security protocols and exposing sensitive data.”
“The FIDO Alliance is proud of our associate member for its dedication to the vision for strong authentication,” added FIDO Executive Director and CMO Andrew Shikiar. “They join a FIDO ecosystem vital to widespread adoption of interoperable, strong authentication that simplifies the user experience while raising security and privacy.”
The FIDO Alliance now includes more than 275 member organizations all over the world. AU10TIX became one of the newest members when it signed on back in April, while the tech giant Apple joined and took a spot on the board in February. The organization is now looking forward to its inaugural Authenticate conference, which will be a virtual event due to COVID-19.
