Corsight Launches Mask-Ready Biometric Solution

Corsight AI has moved forward with the official launch of its facial recognition solution. The company’s algorithm was designed to work particularly well in adverse conditions, and can accurately identify people on a watchlist in low light, in crowds, and at difficult angles. It will also function in harsh weather conditions, and can identify people wearing masks.

That last feature is expected to make Corsight especially appealing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company noted that public health guidelines have made masks an everyday necessity. However, that creates problems when it comes to security and authentication, since most algorithms do not perform as well on covered faces.

Corsight is hoping that its system will help bridge that gap, and allow law enforcement and venue operators to identify people whose faces are covered. The company’s solution is backed by more than 250 patents, and was the top-performing solution from a Western technology provider in the most recent round of NIST testing. It is also hardware agnostic, and can be integrated with virtually any camera and security setup.

“We have developed a silver bullet with this technology,” boasted Corsight CEO Rob Watts. “From helping identify dementia patients to protecting victims of domestic abuse, our technology, can help change not only how organizations leverage facial recognition, but how society perceives it, too. We want to change the narrative surrounding the technology.”

In addition to real-time facial recognition, Corsight provides customers with analytic capabilities that will allow them to scan hours of video footage for a person of interest in a matter of minutes. The client will receive a detailed report of that person’s actions during that time.

Corsight’s commercial launch comes a few months after the company received $5 million from Canada’s Awz Ventures to support the development of its system. It is now one of several companies that has released a mask detection solution during the pandemic.
