Israel-based facial recognition specialist Corsight AI has announced a pair of new executive appointments aimed at expanding its reach in the APAC and India markets.
William Tan will spearhead the APAC efforts as Corsight’s new VP of Asia. Tan brings a considerable amount of relevant industry experience to the role, having previously worked in facial recognition for NEC Corporation. He started there as NEC’s Global Alliance Director & Regional Business Director in 2015, and served as the Director of NEC’s Global Face Recognition & Surveillance department from April of 2018 to March of last year.
In his new role with Corsight AI, Tan will work closely with the company’s other new appointee, Amit Sarkar. Named as Corsight’s new Regional Director of India, Sarkar will be responsible for driving growth in a country whose government has embraced biometrics in an extensive national ID program.
In a statement announcing the appointments, Corsight AI said Sarkar will also be responsible for “evangelising the ethical stance of facial recognition technology and its capabilities to be deployed as a force for good.” In the wake of multiple controversies over privacy, civil rights, and racial bias elsewhere in the face biometrics industry, Corsight has sought to address such issues head-on, having announced the appointment of former UK Surveillance Camera Commissioner Tony Porter as its ‘Chief Privacy Officer‘ in January.
That having been said, Corsight AI CEO Rob Watts emphasized the market potential of the Asian regions in his commentary on the appointments. “This is the next stage in our growth plan and we are excited to expand our specialisms in emerging markets in Asia, including government agencies and companies in a variety of sectors, including law enforcement, tourism, hospitality, entertainment, among others,” he said.
Coright’s announcement went on to highlight Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, India, and, of course Singapore — home to its Asia headquarters — as key regions to be targeted in its expansion efforts.
