Raytheon Technologies subsidiary and aerospace solutions company Collins Aerospace Systems is announcing its Kiosk Connect system, a new touchless check-in and baggage drop solution designed to provide a full end-to-end contactless solution for air travel passengers.
Kiosk Connect works by having the passenger scan a QR code with their mobile device, which — using either the kiosk’s built in WiFi or the airport’s public WiFi — allows them to connect to a common-use kiosk without the need to download any apps.
With the help of Collins Aerospace’s ARINC SelfPass biometric system, the passenger is then able to complete their check-in via their mobile device, producing a boarding pass and bag tags without ever having touched the kiosk itself, for a complete end-to-end contactless process.
“When combined with our secure biometric solutions and self-service airport products, this new feature enables travelers to experience a contactless airport journey all the way from check-in to boarding,” said LeAnn Ridgeway, Vice President and General Manager, Information Management Services for Collins Aerospace. “As we work to help the aviation industry rebuild passenger confidence in flying, it’s incredibly important to us to provide solutions to improve safety and which are easy to use.”
The demand for contactless biometrics has grown dramatically over the past several months, due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic which has cast a spotlight on the danger of commonly touched surfaces like kiosk screens or check-in desks.
Airports and the air travel industry are among the leaders in the move toward contactless biometric check-in and access control solutions, with a number of technology companies developing systems to handle the safe return to travel following the easing of COVID-19 based restrictions in many parts of the world.
