Germany-based biometrics specialist Cognitec has appointed a new VP for its Asia Pacific division. Terry Hartmann will lead the company’s efforts in business development and client relations in the region.
Hartmann joins the company from his most recent stint as the head of Unisys’s North American transportation business, but his most crucial experience is in his previous work with the Australian Passport Office, where he “became an internationally acknowledged thought leader on applying biometric and chip technologies to border control/identity management”, according to a statement from Cognitec.
Commenting on his new role with the company, Hartmann asserted that “[f]ace biometrics is now a proven technology, yet has so much potential for growth,” adding, “Asia Pacific is certainly the place where innovation can be realized.”
Cognitec already has a footing in the region, with its facial recognition technology having been deployed to help secure casinos in Macau last year.
