Cognitec has upgraded its FaceVACS-Entry system.
The eGate border screening solution, which is based on automated facial recognition technology, now features an improved matching algorithm that is better able to scan low-res images; and the system is also now better able to detect fraud attempts in which photos and masks are used, Cognitec says. FaceVACS-Entry version 5.3 also now sports improvements to the user experience, such as visual display guidance for face positioning and prompts for the removal of sunglasses.
The system upgrade appears to reflect a broader commitment on Cognitec’s part to software improvements for its offerings, with the company having also enhanced its FaceVACS-DBScan last year. More recently, Cognitec’s facial recognition technology has been deployed in Macau, where major casinos are using it for security purposes. Those deployments, alongside the upgrades to FaceVACS-Entry, could help to drive interest in the latter among government authorities seeking an effective, automated border screening solution.
