“Migración Colombia’s BIOMIG program marks a milestone in the use of iris biometrics in an automated, expedited immigration control application.” – Dr. JJ Chae, CEO, CMITech
Iris recognition technology from CMITech is now being used for border control in Colombia.
The solution has been deployed at an automated immigration gate in a project commissioned by Migración Colombia, and led by Gemalto Colombia SA. CMITech’s EF-45 iris scanner has been deployed in the eGate lanes as part of a larger automated border control program called BIOMIG.
In announcing the deployment, CMITech emphasized its solution’s ease of use, noting that the EF-45 features a high-resolution 5″ touchscreen aimed at assisting users to position their faces when undergoing the iris scan. CMITech CEO JJ Chae also lauded the innovation of Migración Colombia’s BIOMIG program more generally, asserting that it “marks a milestone in the use of iris biometrics in an automated, expedited immigration control application.”
CMITech first announced the EF-45 in early 2016. Its BIOMIG deployment represents an innovative application of iris recognition technology, which is an ideal type of biometrics for border control given its contactless and secure nature. It also reflects a broader trend of growing interest in biometric screening solutions in general on the part of border control authorities.
