Clearview AI has attained Texas Risk and Authorization Management Program (TX-RAMP) Level 2 Certification, a step that could help to open the door to more business in the state.
TX-RAMP Level 2 certification concerns cloud services handling confidential or regulated data, and entails a thorough security assessment, adherence to relevant state and federal regulations, continuous monitoring, and robust incident response procedures. It is essential for cloud service providers aiming to do business with Texas state agencies, as it is meant to ensure the secure handling of sensitive information.
For Clearview, the certification ensures that the company is cleared to work with law enforcement agencies in the state. Clearview AI’s facial recognition platform allows police to search for face matches against a massive database of images collected from the internet.
“This certification illustrates our commitment to security and compliance in our cloud infrastructure,” said Clearview AI founder and CEO Hoan Ton-That. “Texas government agencies and other regulated entities can trust that Clearview AI provides strong levels of data protection and risk management for their information.”
While Clearview’s platform has enjoyed strong interest from law enforcement groups, the manner in which its database of face images was compiled has led to numerous privacy complaints, including under Illinois’s biometric privacy laws. The company recently agreed to a unique settlement of a class action lawsuit that would offer claimants a stake in future values of Clearview’s contracts.
