CLEAR has teamed up with Tappit in an effort to improve the fan experience at large entertainment venues and retail sites. The two companies will place a particular emphasis on sporting events, which need a safer way to process a large number of spectators coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To that end, Tappit is a cashless transaction and data specialist, with a platform that allows people to make secure mobile payments. That platform will now be integrated with CLEAR’s mobile identity solution to enable people to verify their identities and complete transactions through the same application. Having said that, the two companies did not share many details about what that application will look like in practice, stating only that they would be unveiling a slew of touchless payment solutions as the partnership progresses.
They did, however, note that the app could be used as valid proof of age when purchasing restricted goods like alcohol. As a result, patrons would no longer need to hand over a physical ID card, and could instead enjoy a fully contactless experience that leverages the mobile phone for both payments and identity verification. All personal and payment information would be stored in the app itself, though the Tappit and CLEAR offering could be integrated with the branded apps that individual teams use at their own stadiums and arenas.
“We’re excited to be working with CLEAR to make the fan experience even better,” said Tappit CEO Jason Thomas. “Not only will the relationship help us maintain health and safety; it will allow for a more seamless and secure payment and identification process.”
CLEAR has recently been pushing Digital Vaccine Credentials, and has launched a Come Back Better initiative to help facilitate the safe return to restaurants and other public spaces. The company now has several partnerships with professional sports organizations, and its Health Pass app will be used for screening for the LA Football Club and for all 30 NBA teams.
