Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport has launched CLEAR’s biometric eGates in Terminal 2, introducing a new option for identity verification at the security checkpoint. The airport also announced that CLEAR has begun accepting TSA PreCheck enrollment and renewal applications on-site at Oakland International Airport.
The eGates are designed for CLEAR+ members and are positioned as a way to streamline screening by allowing travelers to confirm identity in under five seconds and bypass the traditional TSA document-check podium. Oakland described the process as enabling TSA to conduct vetting digitally, while the agency continues to oversee security procedures at the checkpoint.
CLEAR is framing the Oakland deployment as part of a broader expansion of its biometric eGates program across the U.S. The airport described the rollout as part of a footprint spanning more than 30 airports. The company has promoted the system as checkpoint modernization infrastructure intended to reduce friction for travelers while supporting security and operational efficiency.
In addition to the eGates launch, Oakland’s announcement confirms that CLEAR is now a TSA PreCheck enrollment provider at the airport. The airport described CLEAR as an official provider supporting new enrollments and renewals, adding another access point for travelers seeking to join or maintain participation in the trusted traveler program.
CLEAR’s aviation leadership tied the rollout to expected increases in travel demand, emphasizing speed and a "frictionless" experience ahead of major events such as FIFA World Cup 2026. Port of Oakland leadership also positioned the deployment as a passenger-experience improvement that supports efficiency, security, and customer service objectives.
CLEAR has previously described the eGates program as a public-private partnership approach aimed at delivering faster, more secure travel at no cost to taxpayers. Reporting on the program has emphasized that TSA retains operational control over identity and security requirements, while the eGates reduce the need for a manual stop at the TSA podium once identity confirmation is completed.
