CLEAR is accelerating its expansion beyond travel and event security into the healthcare sector, landing two separate integrations that will embed its biometric identity platform at the front of major consumer-facing digital health services. New partnerships with Sharecare and Welldoc position CLEAR as an identity verification layer for AI-driven care navigation, chronic disease management, and benefits access, signaling the company’s intent to become a reusable digital ID provider for regulated health applications.
Sharecare, which plans to roll out its next-generation AskMD platform in 2026, will require users to verify their identity through CLEAR before accessing personalized clinical guidance, in-network provider discovery, and benefits information. AskMD is designed to function as an AI-enabled digital front door for care navigation and is expected to reach more than 75 million consumers and over 10 million health plan members. By placing CLEAR at the beginning of that workflow, Sharecare aims to support real-time eligibility checks, secure data retrieval from connected systems, and personalized recommendations based on verified patient identity. The company also highlights expected reductions in fraud and improvements in continuity of care across its ecosystem.
Welldoc, meanwhile, is integrating CLEAR’s identity platform into its AI-powered cardiometabolic health suite, which supports chronic conditions including diabetes, obesity, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and MASH. Verified identity will allow Welldoc to accurately bind patient accounts to clinical data streams, personalize treatment insights, and increase visibility for clinicians overseeing care. Welldoc emphasizes that strong identity binding is essential for obtaining the real-time data needed by its AI models and for ensuring that recommendations are tied to the correct individual. The move follows several years of expansion for Welldoc, including multiple FDA clearances and the creation of a dedicated AI research lab.
Both integrations are being framed within the U.S. government’s broader digital health modernization efforts. Sharecare and Welldoc describe themselves, along with CLEAR, as early participants in CMS’s Health Tech Ecosystem, a voluntary standards-driven initiative intended to align digital health apps with federal program requirements. The companies have indicated plans to continue working with CMS and HHS on models that link secure digital identity to health data portability, benefits navigation, and patient-centered care delivery. Sharecare, in particular, plans to use Georgia as a demonstration environment for a trusted digital identity and app ecosystem that could streamline Medicaid interactions and eliminate manual intake processes.
CLEAR is positioning itself as providing an identity assurance layer for patient access workflows, leveraging a network of more than 36 million members already enrolled in its platform. By extending that network into healthcare, the company is making a bid to become a cross-vertical reusable ID provider, unifying identity verification across sectors such as travel, sports venues, government benefits, and now digital health. For healthcare systems and insurers, however, this model raises questions about vendor governance, long-term biometric retention, and the role of private identity networks as intermediaries to sensitive clinical and claims data.
The trend reflects the increasing importance of strong remote identity verification in healthcare’s shift toward AI-driven, app-centric service delivery. As digital health platforms integrate with large-scale identity networks like CLEAR’s, organizations will need to evaluate how biometric data is stored, how identity attributes are shared across private and public entities, and how audit and consent mechanisms are enforced. With CMS encouraging interoperability and reusable digital credentials, healthcare may see a growing reliance on third-party identity providers, introducing both efficiencies and new layers of risk that will require careful oversight.
