The launch comes amid a broader expansion of biometric and digital identity solutions at U.S. airports. CLEAR recently introduced biometric identity pods called EnVe Pods as part of its identity verification services.
CLEAR Plus, the company’s premium service for expedited identity verification, costs approximately $16 per month with annual billing. The company offers discounted memberships to Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and American Express members, as well as new enrollees who are active military personnel, veterans, and government officials. Additional family members can join a CLEAR Plus account for $119 per adult per year.
Dan Pippenger, Chief Aviation Officer at Port of Portland, said CLEAR had been a frequently requested service since PDX’s new main terminal opened last summer. “With the addition of CLEAR, we’re continuing to improve and streamline the travel experience while maintaining the highest standards of safety and security,” he said.
Andrew Hoan, President and CEO of the Portland Metro Chamber, asserted that CLEAR’s services complement the city’s technology policies, adding that the implementation “meets the growing demand for convenience while upholding the city’s commitment to consumer rights and responsible technology use.”
CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker welcomed the expansion and its potential impact on PDX travelers. The company now serves over 27 million members across its network of locations.
The PDX implementation coincides with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)’s ongoing expansion of facial recognition technology across U.S. airports, with plans for nationwide implementation ahead of the 2025 REAL ID deadline.
