Several new members have joined the Electronic Signature and Records Association (ESRA), including ViewSonic, DocuTech, Decision Dynamics Corporation, Corporation Service Company (CSC), Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC), and Citibank.
The new members range from electronic signature technology developers to a major financial institution, indicating the growing cross-industrial importance of the electronic signature field. In a statement, Citibank Core Operations Managing Director Gary Herzfeld explained that “electronic signatures and records will help our customers make transactions faster, more efficient and secure,” adding that joining ESRA allows the bank “to be part of an organization that drives policies related to these practices to further their adoption.”
Indeed, like other cross-industry alliances, ESRA empowers member organizations to significantly participate in the discourse around the emerging technologies with which they’re concerned. It also lets them build valuable partnerships and help to influence regulation, with ESRA board member recently having visited the US Capitol to meet congresspersons and other political staff on public policy issues.
Such discourse could prove vital going forward as electronic signature systems increasingly find their way into more enterprises, including deployments with major public impacts such as medical prescription systems and the like. Businesses, government, and the public all have an interest in seeing that standards are developed and enforced for this technology, and ESRA is providing an increasingly high-profile venue for that to occur.
