Changi Biometric Screening System to Begin Operation in Second Half of 2017

Safran Identity & Security is providing an update on its efforts to provide biometric passenger identification to Singapore’s Changi airport.

As the company announced in the spring of this year, its MorphoPass Biometric Applicant Management System was selected by airport authorities for their Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) project at Terminal 4 of the airport. Their aim was to take advantage of facial biometrics, and that’s just what Safran is bringing to the table, with MorphoPass using facial recognition to match passengers to their passport documents. The identification will also link passengers’ profiles to their checked baggage, with the whole project aimed at greater automation and self-service.

Safran says the project timeline should see the system go operational in the second half of next year. From the outset, it’s expected to process almost 30,000 passengers each day. With Changi being one of the busiest transportation hubs in Southeast Asia, this could offer a major profile boost for Safran Identity & Security’s technology, and for biometric security screening in general.
