Automotive AI specialist Cerence will issue its results for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2019 on December 17th, the company has announced. The firm’s first fiscal report since spinning off from its parent company will include a “business outlook”, according to a statement.
Cerence made its official split from Nuance Communications on October 1st, allowing it to build on its parent company’s solid foundation of voice interaction-focused AI technology while honing its focus on the connected and smart car market. It appears to have shifted into a high gear fairly quickly, establishing a research partnership with the Mila Artificial Intelligence Institute in Montreal that same month, and announcing the appointment of a new CTO in November.
The company’s history with Nuance has also paved the road forward to some extent thanks to legacy business relationships. From the outset, Cerence counted firms like MG Motor, Geely, and Banma among its clients, and it recently reaffirmed its partnership with Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz.
Meanwhile, it’s operating in a growing market, as car brands continue to integrate sophisticated IT into their vehicles, including not only voice-based AI interaction but also biometric driver verification and monitoring systems.
This may all set some high expectations for Cerence; but whatever its Q4 results turn out to be, it’s worth bearing in mind that this is still technically a new company, and it may still be seeking to establish some market traction.
