CBP Biometric Exit Pilot Project Uses NEC Facial Recognition Tech

“…NEC has revealed that the project uses its NeoFace cloud-based biometric matching technology, and its NeoFace Express device.”

NEC technology is being used in the US Customs and Border Protection agency’s biometric exit trial program at the Washington Dulles International Airport, the company has announced.

The project came into action near the start of this month, with facial recognition technology being used to register the biometrics of non-citizens travelling to Dubai. It’s part of a larger ambition on the part of the CBP to establish a Biometric Entry-Exit Program of Record that can record the biometrics of visitors coming to and leaving the US, and follows a previous trial program at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Now, NEC has revealed that the project uses its NeoFace cloud-based biometric matching technology, and its NeoFace Express device. The latter solution was announced just a couple of months ago, with NEC aiming it at large-scale, high-traffic deployments such as stadiums and airports.

NEC indicated that its technology was used in the Atlanta airport project, as well, with SVP Raffie Beroukhim commenting in a statement that the company is “glad that our technology can potentially be used to help achieve CBP’s greater missions.”
