A Canadian healthcare provider has deployed Nuance’s Dragon Medical One platform to streamline its documentation process. Northern Health treats patients in Northern British Columbia, and will leverage the speech recognition capabilities of Dragon Medical One and PowerMic Mobile to make it easier for its physicians to create and access accurate electronic health records (EHR).
“We needed a solution that would provide our workforce with an efficient way to accurately capture a patient’s complete story at the point-of-care,” said Lisa Gregoire, the Director of Health Information Management at Northern Health.
“Because speech recognition is integrated directly into the electronic health record, it’s easier for physicians to provide richer documentation in a timely way,” added Northern Health’s Chief Medical Information Officer, William Clifford. “There’s no question, better, faster documentation supports better, safer care.”
Dragon Medical One is a portable, cloud-based platform that allows doctors to use their voice to access patient notes and records from any location. The hands-free technology should facilitate the delivery of better healthcare for people covered by Northern Health.
The news comes nearly a year after Nuance reported strong international demand for its Dragon Medical tech, and indicated that it would be focusing more on Canada and the UK. Shortly after that, the Concord Hospital in New Hampshire expanded its use of Dragon Medical One after a successful trial. The partnership with Northern Health suggests that Nuance’s efforts have been fruitful, and that more healthcare providers are embracing the utility of speech recognition tech.
