Canadian firm Invixium Access Inc. will provide biometric technology to India’s Ingram Micro India Ltd. for wide distribution in the Southeast Asian country, according to TechVorm’s Jatinder Paul Singh. Ingram Micro India will channel Invixium’s IXM product line through its domestic partners.
With its potentially destabilizing inequality and border security issues, India has been displaying a strong appetite for biometric security solutions, seeking to install biometric scanners at major transport terminals and even to provide all citizens with biometrics-enhanced national identity cards.
“India is leading the way in mass adoption of biometrics,” said Shiraz Kapadia, Invixium’s CEO, who went on to identify “government and multi-national enterprise driven initiatives” as leading the country’s charge into the field.
It’s a great opportunity for Invixium, whose line of IXM fingerprint-scanning devices allowing for tens of thousands of unique users seem well-suited to India’s large-scale security needs. The products’ software is designed with an eye to ease of use for administrators, which should help India’s various government entities to implement the technology on a pace in step with the country’s ambitious new Prime Minister. Ingram Micro, meanwhile, aims to use this deal as leverage to help it in “building a robust and complete product portfolio in the Physical Security vertical,” the company’s Managing Director Jaishankar Krishnan said.
