The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), India’s premier telecommunications R&D center, has entered into a partnership with Trois Infotech to develop drone-based facial recognition technology. The collaboration aims to create and commercialize advanced drone systems capable of aerial surveillance and real-time intelligence gathering, marking a significant expansion of India’s domestic surveillance capabilities.
The partnership represents a strategic initiative in line with India’s push for technological self-reliance in critical sectors. The development comes amid growing global scrutiny of facial recognition technology deployment, particularly in public surveillance applications. By combining C-DOT’s telecommunications expertise with Trois Infotech’s specialization in drone-based systems, the collaboration aims to advance domestic capabilities in surveillance technology while reducing dependence on foreign vendors.
The development program will focus on creating integrated systems that enable real-time data processing and analysis from aerial platforms. The initiative builds upon existing telecommunications infrastructure while incorporating new capabilities for aerial surveillance and identification. The system will leverage India’s robust mobile network infrastructure, which C-DOT has helped develop over the past three decades.
The project forms part of broader government efforts to enhance indigenous technology development across key sectors, aligning with the Make in India initiative. This follows a pattern of increased investment in domestic surveillance capabilities, as seen in recent years with the deployment of facial recognition systems in major Indian cities.
