Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior has integrated biometric screening in its Vama and Burgas International Airports. The new Automatic Border Control eGates have been provided by biometric security solutions provider Vision-Box via its vb i-match 5 solution, and will allow adult citizens of the EEA, EU, and Switzerland to enjoy a streamlined security screening process when traveling through these airports.
Speaking in a press release, Vision-Box’s Director of Global Business Development Jean-François Lennon emphasized both the need for efficient and effective security measures at air terminals and travellers’ desire for an easy and pleasant experience, asserting that the company’s solution “offers a complete passenger experience package, combining intuitive and user-friendly interfaces with instructional animations and quick proactive adjustments to each traveler, which will make security processes less time-consuming and the Bulgarian Airports more welcoming and attractive for travelers.”
Also important is the European Union’s guidelines for ease of travel between EU member states, which has prompted several countries to push such technology into place. Ukraine, for example, has been eager to establish its biometric passport program; and biometric security screening is proving popular in countries beyond the EU as well, taking shape in Kyrgyzstan and also India, through its ambitious Aadhaar national ID card initiative.
