BOYLE Sports Adopts Jumio Identity Checks as Ireland’s New Gambling Regime Bites

Irish bookmaker BOYLE Sports is embedding Jumio’s identity verification into player onboarding across the UK and Ireland, as operators adjust to the compliance demands of Ireland’s newly established gambling regulator.

The operator, Ireland’s largest independently owned bookmaker, is using Jumio’s identity verification and document-proofing tools to automatically verify new players’ identities when they sign up. Ireland overhauled its gaming framework with the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, which created the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, the country’s first dedicated gambling regulator, and placed new obligations on operators spanning customer experience, fraud prevention, and regulatory readiness; Jumio says its platform helps operators meet the authority’s mandates by streamlining verification workflows and automating anti-money-laundering screening.

Gareth Mok, director of operational compliance at BOYLE Sports, said the results are already visible. “We have already seen higher automatic verification rates, which not only improves the customer onboarding experience, but also reduces our operating costs by minimising the need for manual checks,” he said. Mike Nawrocki, Jumio’s chief revenue officer, said gaming operators are being asked to move faster, protect players better, and meet new compliance expectations all at once.

Identity verification has long been the gatekeeper of regulated online gambling, where operators must keep out minors, excluded players, and fraudsters, and the vendor landscape reflects it; Yoti, for example, supplied document-scanning verification for players at Gamesys’s online casinos. Jumio, based in Sunnyvale, California, says it has processed more than a billion transactions across over 200 countries and territories, and has been widening what counts as acceptable proof, launching a reusable identity platform in Brazil alongside expanded digital ID acceptance.

Founded in 1982, BOYLE Sports runs an online business alongside a retail estate approaching its four hundredth shop across Ireland and the UK, with more than 2,700 employees in Ireland, the UK, and Gibraltar.
